Description of the new 105 Di2 12-speed disc groupset

Just a few months after the SHIMANO Ultegra Di2 12-speed and Dura-Ace groupsets, the 105 benefits from the Japanese brand’s expertise in electronic shifting and becomes the 105 Di2! Among other improvements, this next-generation groupset features enhanced connectivity through ANT and Bluetooth protocols. The Bluetooth connectivity, in particular, allows for extensive interactivity with SHIMANO’s E-Tube Project app, which offers numerous features that enable users to fine-tune their transmission components more precisely according to their preferences.

A significant leap forward for this new Shimano 105 Di2 12-speed groupset, and what a design!

A major innovation in this version is the introduction of “Synchro Shift” technology, which aims to make gear shifting as effortless as possible! It is now possible to manage only the right shifter (in “Full Synchro Shift” mode): the action of the front derailleur is determined by the gear selected on the cassette, with the chainring being chosen to achieve the best chainline and maintain pedaling cadence. A “Semi Synchro Shift” mode is also available: only the left shifter is managed, with the action of the rear derailleur being determined by the choice of chainring, following the same logic.

Regarding components, the shifters offer even faster gear changes and a new, sharper, more precise feel with every press of the lever! The Hollowtech II crankset features a wider crank arm that improves rigidity and aesthetics. The rear derailleur, integrated under the cassette, showcases a “low profile” Shadow RD design that reduces the risk of damage in case of a fall, while the Dual Pivot calipers provide remarkable braking quality and allow for the use of 28 mm tires. This version is available with a Compact crankset (34-50 or 52-36) and a cassette (11-34 or 11-36): a versatile combination suitable for hilly rides!
