History
Founded in 1899 in Japan as Nichibei Fuji, the company began importing American and English bicycles. In 1919 Nichibei-Fuji began to export its own Fuji brand bicycles throughout Asia, becoming the most popular brand in Japan and winning many Japanese cycling competitions.
In 1971, Fuji America was the first Japanese brand in US history to market nationwide under its own name. With innovations such as lighter chromoly frames, Fuji’s reputation for quality bikes soars.
The company launched the Fuji Ace in 1973, the first production bicycle to use Shimano’s revolutionary new Dura-Ace groupset.
In 1977, The S12-2 introduced the world’s first 12-speed bicycle, featuring a 6-speed freewheel, which was a game-changer in the industry. In 1984, Fuji sponsored Olympic gold medalist Mark Gorski to ride for his elite racing team.
Fuji launched its first full carbon road bike in 2004, which Judith Arndt rode to the world championship – becoming the first woman to win a world title on a carbon fiber bike.
Consecration
The following year, Regina Schleicher won the world championship on Fuji. In 2010, Fuji made his debut in the Tour de France with the pro team Footon-Servetto.
In 2015, Omar Fraile of Team Caja Rural rode his Fuji Transonic to win the King of the Mountains contest at the 2015 Vuelta a España. Amy Morrison wins the 2019 United States National Enduro Championship on her Fuji Auric, equipped with M-Link technology.
Then finally in 2021, Amy Morrison won her second US Enduro National title aboard the FUJI Rakan LT. So over the past few years, the Fuji brand and its distinctive mountain logo have been synonymous with cycling and cyclists everywhere, which is why you still hear cyclists say, “My first bike was a Fuji”.
You can find these mountain bikes in our shop at l’Officina in Pernes les Fontaines.
